She has become the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the final of the women's wrestling of the Olympics and guaranteed to win an Olympic gold or silver medal
She is also the first Indian athlete to be nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards.

The President of Bangladesh appointed Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus as the head of the interim government.
The decision was taken at a meeting of President Shahabuddin with the chiefs of the three armed forces and a 13-member delegation of the student movement at Bangabhaban in Dhaka yesterday.
The President has also dissolved the Parliament (Jatiya Sangsad).
Muhammad Yunus won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his anti-poverty campaign.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP chief and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia released from house arrest.

CS Shetty appointed Chairman of State Bank of India
The government has appointed CS Shetty as the Chairman of State Bank of India for a period of three years. Mr Shetty is the Senior Managing Director of the country's largest lender bank-SBI. He will replace the current Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara on August 28.

BIMSTEC Business Summit
The BIMSTEC Business Summit was held in New Delhi.
This first BIMSTEC business summit will promote more intra-regional trade and also encourage investment within the region.
What is BIMSTEC?
Seven countries of Asia are members of BIMSTEC. It includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka from South Asia and two countries of South East Asia, Myanmar and Thailand.
Its objective is to promote rapid economic development, social progress in the countries bordering the Bay of Bengal.
It was established under the Bangkok Declaration, 1997.
Initially, it had four countries and its name was BIMSTEC i.e. Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand Economic Cooperation Organization.
On 22 December 1997, Myanmar joined it, so its name became BIMSTEC.
In 2004, Bhutan and Nepal were included in it.

Capital gain tax
The government has proposed an amendment in the Finance Bill. Under this, taxpayers will get the option of assessing capital gains tax on real estate property.
Taxpayers can choose the option of 12.5 percent tax without removing the effect of inflation (indexation) or 20 percent tax with indexation.

President Draupadi Murmu honored with Fiji's highest civilian award
President Draupadi Murmu was honored with Fiji's 'Companion of the Order of Fiji', which is Fiji's highest civilian honor.
The honour is a reflection of the friendship and deep ties between India and Fiji.
President Murmu described the honour as a symbol of affection and warmth from India's 1.4 billion people towards Fiji.
This was her first visit to Fiji, and she also addressed the Fijian Parliament.

India's renewable energy capacity increased by 165 per cent in the last ten years
While the capacity was 76.38 GW in 2014, it will increase to 203.1 GW in 2024.
With this increase, India now ranks fourth globally in renewable energy capacity.
Solar power capacity has also increased by almost 30 times, from 2.82 GW in March 2014 to 85.47 GW by June 2024.
India has crossed 200 GW of capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, including solar power, large hydro, wind power, biopower and small hydro.
The Government of India has identified energy security as one of its 9 key priority areas and for this the budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Renewable Energy has been increased from Rs 10,000 crore last year to over Rs 20,000 crore this year.

US Vice President Kamala Harris has been formally nominated as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate.
She is the first Indian-American to receive the presidential nomination from a major political party.
Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice-presidential candidate.
